Education Inquiry Backs Adult Literacy Campaigns for Indigenous Communities

The House of Representatives Standing Committee on Employment, Education and Training has released its Report on Education in Remote and Complex Environments.

The inquiry was carried out at the request of Dan Tehan MP, Minister for Education.

The project was extended from its original deadline and its scope expanded to cover the impact and ramifications of COVID-19.

A major recommendation of the report is to support adult literacy campaigns for Indigenous communities.

This is an innovative approach to lifting literacy across a community – a model pioneered in Australia  by Literacy for Life Foundation.

Jack Beetson spoke to ABC Statewide Drive NSW to discuss the recommendation, which has been tabled during NAIDOC Week.
