How Zaiden and his family are achieving real change

A Message from Jack Beetson: Urgent Donation Appeal

It’s important to hold on to what’s real.

And there’s nothing more real, or more positive, than the part our supporters have played in changing a little boy’s life.

The young boy in the photo above is Zaiden, and that’s his mum and dad.

The photo was taken on graduation day – both Zaiden’s parents, Robyn and Mark, completed six months improving their reading and writing through our community-led literacy classes.

Please consider making a tax deductible donation before June 30 so we can support more First Nations families learning to read and write.

It can be tough returning to education as an adult. But Robyn and Mark did it. And they did it so their little boy can have a better future.

He was there by their side the whole way, hanging by the desk in class, and cheering the loudest when they received their graduation certificates.

By making a gift to Literacy for Life Foundation, you are supporting people to become readers, writers and role models.

You can imagine the positive impact that has. It will certainly give Zaiden a head start when he begins school.

Your gifts not only help people learn to read and write – they change lives for entire families and communities. And that is as real as it gets.

Once you learn to read and write, no one can take that away. And it opens up endless opportunities.

People often ask me how they can help make things better for First Nations communities and I say the best thing we can all do is make sure kids have literate parents. And literate grandparents, uncles and aunties.

It is just so important that our communities have those basic skills because if they don’t, the data shows it’s never really going to happen for the next generation either. It’s a cycle. And it’s one we must break. And we can. Because we are doing it already.

Later this month we will be celebrating graduations for another big group of students, right across the country.

At every graduation there will be children like Zaiden looking on with pride. That’s real. And that’s the good you do. Thank you.

Warm Regards,

PS –  Zaiden’s grandfather also took part in the literacy classes. So Zaiden got to see his mum, dad, AND his grandfather graduate. And just when you thought it couldn’t get any better, Zaiden’s father Mark has now joined our team, supporting the next class of students. He’s using his new skills to help other community members.

PPS – End-of-financial-year donations help ensure our community-led literacy Campaigns can reach students on our waiting lists. Classes begin very soon, so every donation helps. Thank you.
