Low literacy affects every aspect of life, from reading a medication label to helping children with homework.
Unfortunately, as a result of ongoing disadvantage, between 40-70% of Aboriginal adults have low levels of English language literacy. In some remote locations it can be as high as 90%.
The good news is that you can help communities across the country to turn things around.
Making a $50 donation can help provide up to 1 hour of locally-led adult literacy teaching in First Nations communities.
As an Aboriginal-led charity, we give Aboriginal adults a second chance at the education they missed out on. We do this by training local people to deliver literacy classes in their own communities.
Lifting literacy leads to better outcomes in health, children’s education, employment, justice and supports greater self-determination.
